Indians Start Push Towards Playoffs
On Thursday night the Little Axe Indians football team will start its push towards what they hope to be their first ever playoff appearance. The Indians (3-2) who are coming off of a 35-13 loss at Jones will play host to the 2-4 Bethel Wildcats.
Bethel and Little Axe have one common opponent in Bridge Creek. Neither team played them close. However, the Indians did have a little more success scoring 13 points in a 44-13 loss at Bridge Creek, while the Wildcats lost 70-6 at home to the same team.
This is a game between two teams heading in two different directions. The Wildcats only have 2 wins and have already played what is believed to be the softest part of their schedule. If they were to lose to the Indians, they may not have another win this season.
Little Axe on the other hand is thinking about the playoffs for the first time in the history of the program. If Coach Tony Smith can lead his team to 6 wins, a playoff appearance would be very likely. With 3 wins already, the Indians have played the strongest part of their schedule and will now finish the season with 3 of their final 4 games at home.
The Indians are very capable of winning at least 3 of those games with Bethel, Oklahoma Centennial, and SeeWorth at home. The lone remaining road game on the schedule is at Lexington who at 5-1 is surprisingly one of the top teams in 2A.
The toughest of the 3 home games will be Thursday night against Bethel. Little Axe fans feel that if the Indians can beat the Wildcats they should definitely finish with 6 wins.
The fact that Little Axe should easily beat Oklahoma Centennial and SeeWorth means that the Bethel game should be the difference between 5 and 6 wins. This alone means that Thursday nights game could be the biggest game Little Axe has ever played.
