Our Unique Community
Long time since I contributed to this amazing web site. The Little Axe Ledger keeps covering more and more interesting people, places, and events that we should all enjoy and embrace about the uniqueness of “Our Community”.
The summer lunch program was responsible for providing over 1,200 meals to area children 18 years of age and younger. The most wonderful outcome of the the program was not just the meals but the opportunity for parents and children to enjoy what the Norman Public Library staff, particularly the Childrens’ librarians, brought us through “Story Time” every Wednesday.

Watching the children interact with Ms. Basha or the wonderful people she sent to visit us was special. Seeing the children and adults explore the many books we were provided to select, take home and enjoy, was a testament that reading does expand our world.
“Our Community” also experienced several significant losses this summer of two individuals who contributed so much to so many and both were a part of our community for over 50 years. Carol Jo Bruesh, who was instrumental in advocating for the Cleveland County Health Department to offer services to this area. Unfortunately, as we lost her and her ability to work for the health department, we also lost critical health care from the health department.
We also lost Ted Rosenfelt. The “Bus Driver”. Ted drove a bus for the Little Axe Public Schools longer then anyone else in our community. The children loved him and so did parents because never was a child removed from his bus and not allowed to ride. I’m sure that some would say it was because Ted couldn’t hear but I know it’s because he believed children should be heard.
