A Heavenly Host Observation

By Joy Nix

A little stressed? Popping Pepcid? Must be Christmastime. You know, the proverbial hustle and bustle, shop ’til you drop, Hallelujah Chorus sing-a-thon, the ding and the dong of the to and fro.

You’ve been given a part in the school seasonal soirée, homeroom Mom in charge of 3 children’s Christmas chaos (all at different schools), finally get to be Mary or Joseph in the nativity, first solo. ‘Betcha got butterflies in your stomach, acid indigestion, pure terror. Think you might upchuck.
Put yourself in my wings.
Take a moment to think back, one night long ago. You’re an angel…one of the angels, chosen to be deliverers of the Good News, the Heavenly Host.

Can you imagine standing in line at practice?
waiting in anticipation…
tap…tap…tap…attention choir!
Stand up straight…angels with wingspreads over 6 feet in back….
cherubs in front…you know better…

Working at perfecting each word, each sound. For this one night. This night of all nights. One performance only.

I was a little nervous (let me tell you), but honored…willing to do my best…then thinking of just who I will be singing about. So much time has passed, thousands of years…waiting and watching for this event. Most thought it would never come. But, ’wonder of wonders’, time has finally come. (Hey, that would be a good title for future recollections of tonight…maybe some music, narration, hmm…oh, back to my original musings.)
…fluttering in my tummy. I think I’m gonna be sick. What if I get stage fright and forget the words? (Hallelujah, Hallelujah).

OK, take a deep breath…Be still and know that I am God.

Then I realize, really realize…….Now I get it…
Who I am singing about.
The time has come.

Oh, Wonder of Wonders, He’s here!!
