Park Nature Center Activities for May
DISCOVERY COVE NATURE CENTER
LAKE THUNDERBIRD STATE PARK
Saturday, May 1st
10:00 am – Wildflower Walk. Oklahoma wildflower expert Pat Folley will lead us on a walk in the vicinity of the Nature Center.
1:00 pm – Flower Bookmarks. Decorate your own one-of-a-kind bookmark. Ages 3 and up. 50¢ fee.
Saturday, May 8th – International Bird Migration Day
9:00 am – Bird Walk. Weather permitting, join us for a walk around the Nature Center area to see what birds we can see and hear. Wear sturdy shoes, and tick repellent is strongly recommended. Recommended for ages 5 and up.
10:30 am – Birds of Lake Thunderbird – Enjoy a slide presentation of birds that live around the lake, with recorded calls for most.
1:00 pm – Hummingbird Feeders – Make a simple hummingbird feeder out of a baby food jar. Ages 6 and up . $1.00 fee (50¢ if you bring your own baby food jar).
2:30 pm – Birds for Kids. Information and activities about birds for children ages 2 to 6.
3:30 pm – Bird Bookmarks. Decorate your own one-of-a-kind bookmark. Ages 3 and up. 50¢ fee.
Saturday, May 22nd
10:30 am – Oklahoma Turtles. Meet the Nature Center’s 7 different kinds of turtles and see some of them being fed.
Saturday, May 29th
11:00 am – Bats Around Us. A slide show for all ages featuring interesting facts and outstanding photography.
1:00 pm – Oklahoma Reptiles – Learn the characteristics of different reptile groups and meet the Nature Center’s resident representatives. All ages.
2:30 pm – Reptile Bingo. Play this fun and informative variation of the familiar game. Ages 2 and up (2s and 3s may need a little help).
Monday, May 31st
11:00 am – Caterpillars and Butterflies. Learn about the life cycle of butterflies while making a cute caterpillar or butterfly (or both) from egg cartons, pipe cleaners and construction paper. Ages 3 and up. 50¢ fee per item.
1:00 pm – Oklahoma Insects. Learn about insects and see some of the many kinds found in Oklahoma. Ages 4 and up.
2:00 pm – Bug Bingo. Play this fun and informative variation of the familiar game. Ages 2 and up (2s and 3s may need a little help).
