Thunderbird Reels in Damage

By Ledger Staff

Lake Thunderbird suffered severe damage from the multi-tornado storm that crushed Little Axe. Campgrounds were heavily damaged, a marina with hundreds of boats destroyed, and hazardous materials scattered throughout the lake. Park personnel are asking for help in the cleanup.

Due to the recent tornado that hit the Little River Marina, the Lake has a large quantity of floating gas cans, propane bottles, and trash that needs to be removed from the shorelines. Not just the shoreline assigned to you in the Adopt a Beach but the shorelines around Little River Marina and areas where it might drift. This again will be an operation where we stack debris, five feet above waterline, and leave it for pickup.

The park is closed to everyone except the cleanup effort. To help out, please go to the Park Office on Alameda for instructions on where to go. Park Number is 360-3572. My number is 641-4185. Attached are safety items to remember. Be sure you take a pair of work gloves. The park wants adults and not kids at this time.

Your help will be greatly appreciated!
