Six Weeks Later

By Ledger Staff

Debris from the May 10 tornadoes that swept Little Axe continues to line roadways and tarps still serve as roofing for some homes, but much improvement has been made over the past month and a half.

Clean-up crews for the county and City of Norman continue to collect storm refuse from property right-of-ways, however, Norman’s collection efforts are set to end in two weeks:

The final pass in all areas will be made during the week of Monday, July 5th. The last day debris will be removed from the right-of-way is Friday, July 9.

For more information and updates on the debris removal process, check the City of Norman website at www.normanok.gov or call the City Action Center at 366-5396. The Cleveland County District 2 number is 366-0200.

As for Little Axe’s once bustling Country Boy Market, only a steel skeleton remains.

A more encouraging sight is the fresh canopy covering new fuel pumps at the gas station. The station is set to reopen soon.

Across the highway, the Abundant Life Covenant Church building has also been stripped of skin in preparation for its rebuilding.

Since the church served as a polling place, the Absentee Shawnee Tribe building at the corner of Hwy 9 and 192nd (Harrah Rd.) will replace it for voters in Precinct #140084.
