Where can I help?
Our legislative session has been over for three weeks, but my schedule hasn’t slowed down one bit. As so many families continue to piece together their homes and lives after the devastation of the deadly tornadoes, I have been busy directing recourses and helping in any way possible. Being on the ground and helping has opened my eyes to so... »
Legislative Session Wraps Up
House lawmakers finished their work a week early this year, with the House agenda nearly completed. Important bills included a tax cut, a pay-as-you-go plan to fund the upkeep and repair of the Capitol and workers’ compensation reform. This year’s income tax cut bill will cut the top rate to 5 percent in 2015 and could further cut it to 4.85... »
Income tax cut, budget completed
This past week the House of Representatives voted on the final passage of a plan to reduce Oklahoma’s Income Tax Rate, as well as announced the finalization of the 2013-2014 State budget. Although I think there is non-core service spending that could still be cut, I was pleased to see the budget plan agreed upon gave targeted increases towards core responsibilities.... »
4-H Day at the Capitol
Recently, Oklahoma 4-H participated in the 17th Annual 4-H Day at the Capitol. 4-H members share with legislators the positive impact 4-H has made in their lives and communities. Delegate visited the offices of both the Senate and House of Representatives. Jennifer Jones of Little Axe was privileged to be one of Cleveland County's delegates this year. ... »
Currently at the State Capitol
Lawmakers began this week by carrying Oklahoma flags and placing them on the south side of the Oklahoma State Capitol to raise awareness of child abuse in the state. Each of the 41 flags represented a child that died from abuse in 2012. Pottawatomie and Cleveland counties are among counties with high incidents of child abuse. We often come together... »
Legislative Work Remains
The first legislative deadline has cut down the number of bills drastically. Some of the major bills that remain alive include the Oklahoma Firearms Freedom Act, a bill to allow for CLEET-certified school employees, two workers’ compensation reform bills, three income tax cut bills, two bills that will allow horse slaughter in Oklahoma and a state question that would ask... »
Cockroft Responds to Governor’s Speech
Listening to Gov. Mary Fallin’s State of the State address this year, I was pleased with her focus on right-sizing state government, and I join her in making sure this State makes responsible decisions with taxpayers dollars. At the same time, I am hesitant to spend the savings and revenue growth we have accrued over the past several years. We... »
Funding the Arts: Pro & Con
Con Representative Josh Crockroft As many of you probably know by now, I have filed legislation to reduce and phase out appropriations given to the Oklahoma Arts Council. Currently, approximately $4 million is appropriated each year for their programs. House Bill 1895 would decrease the amount of their appropriations by 25 percent over four years. This bill is a result of a... »
Little Axe Rep Introduces Legislation
Lawmakers have filed their bills for the 2013 legislative session. I have decided to push for school board election reform, open record request accessibility, voter ID and bills supporting our Second Amendment rights. Below is a description of each of my bills. My legislation, House Bill 1887, would change all school board election dates to correspond to a regular November election... »
Preparing for 2013 State Legislature
As we near the 2013 legislative session, I am starting my weekly column again in an attempt to keep my district informed about the issues we are dealing with at the Oklahoma State Capitol. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to continue my service for my district after a very successful campaign season. The overwhelming support was humbling and... »
